MNCRD ACTIVITIES
The Media Network on Child Rights and Development conducts various activities and programes of various nature and on different fora. Some of our activities are as follows:
  • Collecting, circulating and publishing information, statistics and/or opinions relating to the objectives of the Network (The OVC News, the African Child on the Day of the African Child annually since 2003; the Zambian Child newsletter, Bana newspaper done by children from the CPB and running features in newspapers through the Department of Children Development

  • Radio programs on UNZA Radio in Lusaka, Radio Breeze FM in Chipata, Radio Maranatha in Kabwe, Radio Yangeni in Luapula, Radio Mosi-oa-Tunya in Livingstone, Radio Mano in Kasama, and Radio Lyambai in Mongu through UNICEF; included Radio Lyambai in Mungu, Zambezi FM in Livingstone and ZNBC.

  • OVC Media Awards in 2002 to honor journalists who contributed to promoting children’s rights, the CHAZ/Media Network Media Awards in June 2005.
  • PIBA Media Awards from December 2005, 2006, 2007 (some winners – Aaron Mwewa – UNZA Radio, Chris Wapamesa – Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) Mildred Mpundu (late) – Times of Zambia, , Martha Zulu – Breeze FM Community Radio, Arnold Tutu – Health Journal, Kelvin Chongo – Zambia Daily Mail.
  • Child Discussion Forums
 
  • Television documentaries on Zambia National Broadcsting Corporation (ZNBC) television.

  • Media workshops through organisations like Care International – SCOPE OVC Project, Movement Against Prostitution, Destitution and Exploitation (MAPODE), CEF – Oxfam GB and RAPIDS in Kabwe, Livingstone, Kitwe, Lusaka, Mongu, Siavonga, Lundazi, Chipata and Solwezi Districts where government officials commended the network during official opening ceremonies.

  • Children’s News Agency (CNA). This included the Children’s News Agency (CNA), Children’s Media Monitoring Project (CMMP) and the inclusion of children in all the activities that the Media Network runs. The CNA is engaging children to write their own stories in order to address their rights; the children from community, government and private schools. The articles will be published in the mainstream media and on the Media Network website (www.mncrd.org) and other institutions dealing with children.

  • Children’s Media Monitoring Project (CMMP). The CMMP is an initiative by the Media Monitoring Africa (MMA) which identifies children from community, government and private schools to monitor how the mainstream media is covering children and have the comments posted on the website and distributed to the media houses.
